Or iz it Bill O'Reilly..? Oh well.. Either way, lyke the majority of his comments, it alwayz comes out all O'Wrong.. lolz. [Uh oh, what happened this tyme..?] Well, in a nutshell, there has been some controversy over the recent comments made by O'Reilly on his radio show this past week. Apparently, O'Reilly and the Reverand Al Sharpton met for dinner at Harlem's well-reknown Sylvia's restaurant in New York City. Afterwards, O'Reilly informed his radio audience that he was surprised about what he encountered inside..

O'Reilly Radio Broadcast [full version]

"I [O'Reilly] couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. It was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks [and has a] primarily black patronship. There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, 'M-Fer, I want more iced tea!'"

I'm not gonna lie.. When I first heard of the comments, I didn't know how to feel.. Your "knee-jerk" reaction is to be angry, but then you have to take time to consider the source.. If you don't know the name Bill O'Reilly, then you probably also don't know namez lyke Nancy Pelosi, Dick Cheney, or anyone else of importance.. George Bush doesn't count.. I said people of importance.. lolz! Sadly enough, we [black people] know more about the last 3 hostz of the BET Hip Hop Awardz, than we do about who'z running our everyday lives.. But, I'll leave that alone.. For that'z an entirely different entry, in itself.. Bill O'Reilly is nationally known for his sharply opinionated comments, especially when it comez to the African-American culture. From Ludacris to Don Imus, and everything else in-between, there isn't often a time when you will find Mr. O'Reilly speechless..

"It was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people [who] were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all," O'Reilly said.

I don't know if O'Reilly'z comments were intended to be taken sarcastically by the majority of his critics, who feel O'Reilly is out of touch with the African American culture, but it clearly backfired.. "It is very insulting," said Sylvia's manager Trenness Woods-Black, granddaughter of the famous Sylvia Woods. "O'Reilly's knowledge about the African-American community is limited and his statements are outrageous and unfortunate."

Tuesday night, on his Fox News television show "The O'Reilly Factor", O'Reilly insisted that his remarks were intended to show "there was no difference" [between whites and blacks] and "stereotypes are not true." Ok.. So, before sitting down for coconut shrimp with the Rev, you mean to tell me you reely thought black people yelled, "M'fer, I want some more iced tea!"?! Word..?

O'Reilly claims CNN and Media Matters, the network who reported the story, is "out to destroy me and Fox News." Sharpton said he and O'Reilly have eaten together in Harlem before, and was surprised upon hearing the news of the recent comments. "I understand he says he's been taken out of context. I'll be going on his show and I want to talk directly with him," said Sharpton.

During last Wednesday's show, O'Reilly said he'd been to a concert at Radio City Music Hall and noted that "the blacks were well-dressed." O'Reilly felt, "This is what white America doesn't know, particularly people who don't have a lot of interaction with black Americans. They think that the culture is dominated by Twista, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg,". [O'Reely, Bill?!?]

Media Matters spokesman Eric Burns said he expected O'Reilly to claim to have been victimized, describing it as "his automatic response to scrutiny of his ignorant comments." Sylvia's managers weren't too surprised, either. "It's commonplace for O'Reilly. It's his position and overview of the world," said Kenneth Woods, grandson of Sylvia Woods. Restaurant host William Lessenberry said he was mostly amused. "He had his idea of what a soul food restaurant was like and now he's got a different view," he said. "I could only laugh." Herbert and Sylvia Woods opened their soul food restaurant in 1962 in a Lenox Avenue storefront with room for only 35 people. Today, the restaurant occupies most of a city block and attracts tourists from all over.

We'll never reely know what O'Reilly intended to accomplish by making such astenine commentz, but one thing we do know is this.. Opinion is short of fact, and fact can only be justified by doing.. If he is truly that lost when it comes to the knowledge of Black America, then maybe Fox News should reevaluate who they allow to lead their nationally televised programs. If Tavis Smiley felt uninformed about a specific topic, he would investigate and gain as much knowledge as he could on the subject, without you or I ever knowing of it. He wouldn't blurt his inadequacies to his viewers.. But, then again.. I guess that'z the difference between what is acceptable behavior from one class of people than the other.. lolz.

You be the judge.. Were O'Reilly's comments taken out of context..? Or, is this just another case of the wonderful world of being a white man in America..? Hmm... I wonder.. :)

Speaking of white men in America, check out a couple clipz from Comedy Central's, "The Daily Show - hosted by Jon Stewart", in response to O'Reilly'z comments.. [Warning: If you're at work, or in an area where laughing out loud may be deemed "inappropriate", you might want to wait until you get home.. lolz!]
